Familiarise yourself with the environmental tasks of the Finnish Supervisory Agency and the Economic Development Centres
Tasks previously carried out by the Environment and Natural Resources Division of the ELY Centres will be transferred to the Finnish Supervisory Agency. These include permit, guidance, planning and supervision tasks related to environmental protection, nature conservation, land use, construction, management of inland water resources and marine environments as well as permit and supervision tasks related to water management, and tasks related to environmental impact assessments. In addition, all environmental tasks previously carried out by the Regional State Administrative Agencies will be transferred to the Finnish Supervisory Agency.
Development and promotion tasks related to the environment and natural resources will be managed by ten regional Economic Development Centres. For example, these tasks are related to the promotion of land use, water management and the promotion of biodiversity and the good status of waters. In the future, the majority of the environmental grants previously granted by the ELY Centres will be distributed by Economic Development Centres.
