The Helmi programme aims to tackle the main direct cause of biodiversity loss in Finnish nature: decrease in habitats and deterioration of their quality. Impactful action is taken for the benefit of biodiversity.

Collaborative effort to implement the Helmi programme

The Helmi programme is a joint programme of the Ministry of the Environment and the Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry, implemented together by the administrative branches of both ministries and by municipal authorities and associations. Actions are targeted to sites both within and outside the protected areas. The measures under the programme are based on voluntary action by landowners.
