Healthiness and accessibility of buildings

A healthy and accessible building contributes to a good living and operating environment. Good designing and construction are the starting points.

Buildings must be designed and constructed comprehensively, in order to achieve a healthy, safe and pleasant indoor climate under all normal use circumstances. Attention must also be paid to humidity, heating and lighting conditions and the water supply. In other words, the building must not cause a health risk. The purpose and environmental circumstances of the building must be considered when assessing its health effects.

Insofar as their purpose requires, buildings must be suitable for people whose capacity to move or function is limited. Accessibility guarantees equal opportunities to use the building for different population groups. This is in the best interest of all users, because accessibility allows people to move easily, improving user safety and the movability of items.
