Baltic Sea Cooperation for Climate Resilience - Flood and Drought Risk Management

Baltic Sea Cooperation for Climate Resilience - Flood and Drought Risk Management project (11/2019 - 12/2021) is a cooperation project between two ministries and several governmental agencies. The project is funded by Finnish ministry of foreign affairs and supervised by Ministry of agriculture and forestry. Center for Economic Development, Transport and the Environment of Southwest Finland is the project coordinator. Project is conducted in cooperation with Finnish environmental institute, Natural Resources Institute Finland and Center for Economic Development, Transport and the Environment of Pirkanmaa.

Project will survey the different methods that are used by other Baltic Sea nations to counter the harmful effects of extreme weather conditions that are caused by climate change. Projects final report will be a summary surveys and best practices. Report will also give recommendations of best practices on climate adaptation methods in Baltic Sea region. 

Project will focus on four themes:

- Adaptation of cities

- Adaptation on rural areas

  • Focus on Drought risk management
  • Report: Drought risk management in Baltic Sea region (Natural Resources Institute Finland and ELY -centre of Southwest Finland. ETA 12/2021)

- Adaptation of water supply and sanitation

- Policy adaptation
