Padasjoki

Padasjoki (3,600 inhabitants; 731 km2) lies in the region of Päijät-Häme in Southern Finland beside Lake Päijänne, and also has many smaller lakes within its boundaries. Some 53% of the working population are employed in the services sector, 35% in manufacturing and 10% in farming and forestry.

Extensive forests provide a source of income as well as opportunities for leisure activities. Sectors providing significant employment include forestry, industry, construction, services and farming.

Padasjoki’s forests also represent a potential solution for the production of renewable bioenergy from locally grown biomass. A biomass-fuelled heating plant currently under construction in Padasjoki will soon provide heat for various buildings run by the municipal authorities.
