Kuhmoinen

Kuhmoinen (2,700 inhabitants; 937 km2) is located in Central Finland. Some 58 % of the working population are employed in the services sector, 25 % in manufacturing and 14 % in farming and forestry.

Kuhmoinen lies on the shores of Lake Päijänne, one of Finland’s largest lakes, and has more than 400 smaller lakes within its boundaries. Kuhmoinen’s popularity for leisure activities is reflected in the fact that it has more holiday homes than permanent residents.

Extensive forests represent a considerable local resource for the production of renewable energy. Plans for a local biomass-fuelled heating plant are currently under discussion.
