Aims of the project

The aim of the project  "Nordic Nature – trends towards 2010" is to identify trends and status of the biological diversity (species of plants and animals and habitats) in the Nordic countries towards 2010.

The project group shall compile relevant information and data, e.g. redlists of species and habitats, biodiversity indicators and the developments of the close everyday environments. Relevant parts of the book "Nature in Northern Europe – Biodiversity in a changing environment" (NORD 2001:13) will be updated and the material will be published.

The project shall try to identify underlying reasons for the changes of the biodiversity and provide recommendations for mitigating measures based on Nordic experiences on actions needed to reach the 2010-target.

This information shall be published in electronic thematic fact sheets on these project's home pages on the web-service of the Finnish Environment Administration in English, Finnish and Swedish. The fact sheets shall be published in other Nordic languages on the relevant web-services of the participating organisations.
