Kokemäenjoki-LIFE -project has ended!

New!

Kokemäenjoki-LIFE is a project for the restoration and management of valuable natural sites along the Kokemäenjoki River. The project focuses on restoration, management and the planning of conservation for five areas belonging to the Natura 2000 network. The aim is to encourage the preservation of the areas' natural features and to improve their potential for recreational use.

The following areas are participating in the project: the Puurijärvi-Isosuo area in Satakunta, Vanhakoski, Pirilänkoski, the Preiviikinlahti Bay area and the Kokemäenjoki estuary.

Puurijärvi Lake, the Kokemäenjoki estuary and Preiviikinlahti Bay are among Finland's most famous and most important bird conservation areas. The grove-like areas of Pirilänkoski and Vanhakoski are included in the National Herb-Rich Forest Conservation Programme. In addition to their natural features, all the areas are extremely important as recreational sites.
