Inari-Pasvik - cross border nature protection and nature tourism
The international cooperation involving the Vätsäri Wilderness area and the Natura 2000 area in Finland, the Övre Pasvik National Park in Norway and the Pasvik Nature reserve in Russia started in 199. The cooperative working group consist representatives of the regional administrations responsible for the nature conservation and research.
The aim of the cooperation is to promote nature protection, manage natural and cultural values and increase environmental education in the transboundary area.
The cooperation strengthened in 2006, when a two-year Intereg III A Nord project " Promotion of nature protection and sustainable nature tourism in the Inari-Pasvik area" started.

Main objectives of the project
- harmonize monitoring and research methods of golden eagle (Aquilachrysaetos) and brown bear (Ursus arctos)
- increase the knowledge of the nature and the ecology
- promote sustainable nature tourism
- become a member of the Europark Federation
