Co-operation with Estonia

The Central Finland Regional Environment Centre has engaged in cooperation with Estonia for over a decade. The most important partner in the cooperation in Estonia is the city of Tür in Estonia. Under the cooperation training has been provided to local environmental authorities. Additionally, Finland has provided support to Estonia on European Union issues. Common themes have been the EU Water Framework Directive and Natura 2000.

The  Ministries of the Environment in both countries have provided a small amount of financing in support of the activities. Besides occupational development, there has also been elaboration and developing of environmental protection. The most important investment under the cooperation is a sewage treatment plant in the city of Tür.

Concerning the cooperation between Finland and Estonia on training the goal is to support local environmental authorities in Estonia with implementing the EU Water Framework Directive and to exchange experiences on the process.
