description of the urban network in the integrating Europe. The second chapter first outlines the concept town or city and then studies the databases pertaining to them. The third chapter gives an overview of earlier descriptions of urban networks in
Europe. The fourth chapter gives a sketch of the urban network in the Baltic Sea region while assessin previous typologies of these towns. The last chapter discusses the experiences gained with a view to further studies, since an in-depth description of
the towns can only be made in the form of international cooperation.
