The reform of regional State administration was carried out on 1/1/2010. The tasks of the Regional Environment Centres have been transferred to the Centres for Economic Development, Transport and the Environment. Responsibility for environmental permits now falls to the Regional State Administrative Agencies. More

Pirkanmaa Regional Environment Centre became part of Centre for Economic Development, Transport and the Environment for Pirkanmaa

Regional administration in Finland has being reorganized. All state provincial offices, employment and economic centres, regional environmental centres (including Pirkanmaa Regional Environment Centre), environmental permit agencies, road districts and occupational health and safety districts have been phased out. Their functions and tasks have been reorganized and streamlined into two new regional state administrative bodies: the Regional State Administrative Agencies (AVI) and the Centres for Economic Development, Transport and the Environment (ELY). There are six Regional State Administrative Agencies and 15 Centres for Economic Development, Transport and the Environment that have started operating on 1 January 2010.

The Centre for Economic Development, Transport and the Environment for Pirkanmaa works in the Tampere Region, which is the second largest region by population in Finland. Our work in environmental matters supervised by the Ministry of the Environment and also partly by the Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry. The office is located in the centre of the city of Tampere.

In addition to regional tasks the Centre for Economic Development, Transport and the Environment for Pirkanmaa has also a national task. It is the national authority responsible for producer responsibility in waste management in Finland - with the exception of the autonomous Åland Island.
