HINKUmappi online service collects and distributes information on climate-friendly action to reduce costs and emissions

The Finnish Environment Institute SYKE has opened a new web service, HINKUmappi, as a showcase for climate-friendly action. The online service provides citizens, businesses, organisations and experts with a channel for sharing and acquiring information on a variety of climate-related topics, including the energy efficiency of buildings, and renewable energy solutions.

Six new municipalities as HINKU partners

Asikkala, Ii, Laitila, Masku, Nousiainen and Rautjärvi have joined the HINKU project as partners. The municipalities get acquainted to climate change mitigation possibilities as well as start concrete actions to cut their emissions. They work together with the Finnish Environment Institute and the five HINKU municipalities, Kuhmoinen, Mynämäki, Padasjoki, Parikkala and Uusikaupunki.

Good news from HINKU

The newsletter Good news from Finland and broadcaster Deutche Welle wrote about the achievements in HINKU municipalities.

Proven by experience in five municipalities: carbon neutral municipality not a utopian idea

Two years ago, five municipalities promised to become pioneers. They decided to curb their greenhouse gas emissions by more than required under EU objectives, and ahead of schedule. In two years, the municipalities have taken more than 70 measures to enhance energy efficiency, energy saving, the use of renewable energy sources, and pro-environmental investments. A further 60+ measures are being planned.
