Pirkanmaa Regional Environment Centre

Pirkanmaa Regional Environment Centre (PREC) is a regional public administrative state authority managing and guiding environmental matters. PREC cooperates with other regional authorities and participates in regional development.

Our work and operation covers the Tampere Region, which is the second largest region by population in Finland. The 24 municipalities of the region attend to local environmental matters.

PREC is supervised by the Ministry of the Environment and also partly by the Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry.

PREC employs about 140 people, but the number varies seasonally. Approximately 100 people are employed on a permanent basis. The PREC office is located in the centre of the city of Tampere.
